UV-irradiation, thermal treatment, and gamma-irradiation pretreatment techniques have been performed to make PP more susceptible to degradation, as these pretreatment techniques reduce the hydrophilicity of PP. Moreover, UV-pretreated PP is biodegradable by the Bacillus flexus microbe (Mohanan et al., 2020). However, biodegradation of PP can easily be improved by blending it with cellulose or starch blend; carbohydrate blends provide the adhesion of microbes to the PP surface (Kaczmarek et al., 2005).
